Itâ™s very exciting that our young talented XRAY team driver Alfred Lao achieved podium finish in the 1/10 Electric Model Car and with this result also qualified for the national team to participate in next year's world championships.
The participants mostly came from Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Beijing. Qualification was based on 3 consecutive fastest laps in 5 minutes. Two results were counted from heat and final respectively. Tires could be of any brand, but maximum four sets and the weight couldnâ™t be less than 1380 gram.
The track was opened two days before the race. So, all drivers could do more practice and had enough time to well prepare for the competition. The track was very big with medium grip. Alfredâ™s T4 2016 was well set and he got the 1st place in the preliminary on 24th Oct.

During the first round of the qualifying, his performance was very well and stable initially. He has been in a leading position all the time. However, he made a big mistake in the last lap. At the end, he got the 5th position due to the loss of 12 seconds.
It was also good weather on 25th Oct 2015 for two rounds of qualification and 3 rounds of finals, sunny day with the temperature around 12℃. The tires had been heated prior to the race. It was very fierce in the 2nd and 3rd round of qualifying as the time was very close among the top three drivers. Alfred got the 2nd position in the 2nd round of qualifying, 1.4 seconds behind the leader. During the 3rd round qualifying, he put lot effort to pursue after the 1st position. But at the end he got 2nd position, with 0.07 seconds difference. It was pity for the loss of TQ and got the third into the Final.
Final began at 1:00pm. Alfred tried warm up the tires during the first round of the Final. But it did not work and his car span around and dropped to last place. It was quite difficult to control the car in the first three minutes. But Alfred did not give up and finished the race in sixth position eventually.
Alfred heated the tires before the 2nd round of the Final. The car was then very smooth. Alfred pursued the leader from the start and waited for his moment. It came in 3rd lap after mistake of leading driver and from that moment Alfred did not look back and finished 1st.
Unfortunately stress and pressure affected Alfredâ™s performance in last final and he was only able to finish 6th.
Overall, the result of Alfred Lao was very good. He finished third overall and qualified for the 2016 World Championship. The news about his young talent was also published by Xinhua News Agency in China - here.
